How I work

  • I am dedicated to guiding adult clients through their journey of healing & self-discovery, offering hope & understanding whilst facilitating positive change.
  • By understanding the connections between your past relationships & experiences & your present difficulties, you can cultivate greater self-awareness & make more sense of your inner world.
  • My job is to listen deeply to you & your story & to help you make sense of repeating patterns, facilitating hope & change through an attuned professional relationship.

Client–therapist relationship

  • Our client/therapist relationship is a deeply human connection built on trust, empathy & collaboration.
  • I provide a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore your innermost thoughts & feelings without fear of judgement.
  • My role involves careful listening, offering interpretations to enhance your self-understanding, whilst maintaining a consistent, supportive & compassionate presence throughout your exploration.
  • This attuned, empathic connection is fundamental to the healing process.
  • The relationship we form is fundamental to the healing process.

What is psychodynamic therapy

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach rooted in the principles of psychoanalysis, focusing on the unconscious mind and its influence on thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Psychodynamic therapy explores how past experiences, particularly early relationships, shape current emotions and behaviours.

How does psychodynamic therapy Work

  • As you gain deeper insight into your unconscious motivations & patterns, you can work towards resolving inner conflicts & fostering healthier coping mechanisms.
  • This approach helps you explore your inner world, allowing yourself to be seen & understood in a kind & calming setting.
  • In this way, you can understand the deeper causes of your emotional distress. The goal is to help you gain insight into your unconscious patterns, leading to greater self-awareness & emotional stability.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy is NOT a quick fix. It is an investment in yourself with an attuned & highly qualified professional.
  • If you have a specific concern which requires a brief intervention this is possible (6-12 weeks) or you may benefit more from an ongoing therapy commitment.

Individual Therapy

  • Individual Therapy offers a confidential space for personal exploration & growth where during sessions I support you in developing a deep understanding of yourself.
  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy can help you with the emotional difficulties, behaviours & patterns that are affecting you in living the life you want to lead.
  • Talking about difficult emotions or experiences, encourages greater clarity in understanding the root causes of your struggles.
  • Meaningful therapy isn’t about ‘quick fixes’ or ‘how to’. It's about asking the right questions, seeing patterns, & making connections within a supportive, steady & attuned relationship.
  • Brief Therapy (or Counselling) is available for specific issues & may be useful for adults who have had longer term therapy before.

Perinatal Therapy

  • Becoming a parent is one of life's most profound transitions, often filled with immense joy but also unexpected challenges.
  • The perinatal period–spanning pregnancy through into the second or third year postpartum–is a time of significant physical, hormonal & emotional change.
  • While many parents navigate this journey smoothly, others encounter mental health struggles: anxiety or depression, intrusive thoughts, unexpected rage, or bonding issues.
  • Complications can arise: birth trauma, breakdowns in family communication, partner relationship struggles.
  • Some parents experience other challenges: an unexpected disabled baby, a baby after multiple baby losses, an IVF baby, a premature baby, or other health complications, which all bring challenging feelings.
  • My approach offers a unique way to delve into the roots of your feelings, understand how past experiences shape your present, as well as processing the recent experiences & helping you face your new reality, whatever that looks like.
  • I have been a Senior Therapist at Crossreach Perinatal Service for 5+ years & I am a Perinatal specialist.

Who is perinatal therapy for?

Relationship with

Self

  • This period often involves grappling with huge identity shifts, loss of autonomy, & changes in self-perception.
  • Therapy with me supports the exploration of these feelings, helping you integrate your new identity as a parent with other aspects of yourself.

Mother-Infant

Bond

  • Concerns about bonding are common.
  • Psychodynamic therapy, informed by attachment theory, explores your internal representations of your baby & your relationship, helping to address barriers to connection & foster secure attachment.
  • I can help you develop parental reflective functioning – the ability to understand your baby's mental state & your own, which is crucial for sensitive parenting.
  • For this I would need to see Baby in the room for specific interventions.

Building Partner

Relationship

  • The stress of new parenthood can impact communication & intimacy, potentially bringing underlying relational patterns to the surface.
  • Understanding these dynamics can foster empathy & improve connection for you as a couple.
  • Communication & expressing needs are important skills we can think about & develop in our work together.
