About Me

Pippa Watson Rees BACP Accredited psychodynamic counsellor in Edinburgh

Hi I’m Pippa

  • My work integrates 30 years of clinical experience & professional training.
  • I am 51 years old, have been married for 24 years & have 3 teenage children & a Labrador.
  • I moved to Scotland in 2018 after living most of my life in the South of England. (I spent a year in India after graduating.)
  • I qualified as an Occupational Therapist age 21 & later trained as an Integrative Counsellor age 27, whilst working in Adult Community Mental Health (NHS).
  • My most formative training was at Oxford University when I trained to become a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist (4 yr MA programme); after 15 years as an NHS OT I dedicated myself solely to practicing as a psychotherapist (17 years ago).
  • In recent years I qualified as a Clinical Supervisor & a Couples Therapist.
  • I am passionate about my work & have a high EQ. With lived experience of marriage, birth, parenting & life challenges I know how tough 'adulting' can be.
  • When not in my consulting room I love being active & in the outdoors. I can often be found out with my dog, wild swimming (Sauna = a bonus) or in the gym.

Professional background

  • I’m a qualified Occupational Therapist with 15 years experience working in the NHS in hospital & community services, This included working with adults with disabilities, learning disabilities, neurodiversity & mental health challenges.
  • I have worked in further & higher education, 5 years supporting students 1-1 & in groups at Oxford University Counselling Service, & then 5 years back in the NHS as a GP Counsellor in a large surgery, as well as many years in various charity settings.
  • I recently finished working at Relationship Scotland, where I was working as a Couples Counsellor.
  • For over 5 years I’ve worked 2 days as a Senior therapist at Crossreach Perinatal service offering postnatal groups & individual counselling sessions to new & expectant parents.

My approach

  • My aim is always for my clients to feel as if they are in the right place, able to trust me with their story.
  • I help you to think about how the past relates to the present, what gets re-enacted in the ‘here and now’ & your early relationship history or patterns.
  • We will be looking at the triggers & how the unconscious works within these connections.
  • I integrate my training & can offer a somatic, trauma informed, or brief focussed approach as required.
  • Please see Services for more detail.
